Talking point: Clio called its move into fintech “a defining chapter” as it works to provide a holistic operating system for the legal industry. It also announced a new mobile and desktop app, among other products. Its new VC arm, Clio Ventures, will make direct equity investments in early-stage legaltech companies. CEO and founder Jack Newton said in a statement that Clio Ventures will work to invest in companies with diverse leadership. The expansion follows a US$110-million Series E funding round in April that counted OMERS Growth Equity among its investors and valued Clio at US$1.6 billion.
