Talking point: Prime Minister Mark Carney announced in January that Canada would let in 49,000 Chinese-made EVs per year at a reduced tariff rate of 6.1 per cent as Beijing granted some relief from duties on agricultural goods. Geely, which also makes premium brands Zeekr and Lynk & Co., did not say which models of its more affordable Geely Auto brand would be available in Canada. “We are entering this market with a long-term commitment, bringing our global technology and engineering capabilities to Canadian drivers while building strong local partnerships and the support customers need to feel confident in choosing Geely,” said Bryan Wu, managing director of Geely Auto Canada. Rivals BYD and Chery also plan to sell here.
