In an open letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, more than 250 scientists currently or previously funded by Facebook-funded technology initiatives urged the platform to adopt “stricter policies on misinformation and incendiary language that harms people or groups of people, especially in our current climate that is grappling with racial injustice.” (The Logic)
Talking point: The signatories, which include more than 60 researchers at prominent U.S. research institutions and at least one Nobel Laureate, add more gravitas to the movement against Zuckerberg’s decision to allow Trump to go un-fact-checked on Facebook. Like the many Facebook employees who have taken issue with Zuckerberg’s decision, the scientists are making noise from within; they are all current or former recipients of funding from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub.
