Talking point: Canadian exchanges saw 17 deals of more than $150 million last year not including closed-end funds, according to Bloomberg data. The Toronto Stock Exchange also saw a record number of IPOs in 2021, including 25 from firms in the innovation economy. So far this year that momentum has slowed, with no innovation-economy firms going public via IPO in the first quarter. The slowdown comes amid “a period of macroeconomic uncertainty,” said Thanos Moshopoulos, managing director of equity research and technology at BMO, including the war in Ukraine, high inflation and rising interest rates.
