Women only held about 35 per cent of management positions across the country in 2023, placing it below nearly half of all OECD countries, according to an analysis by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Talking point: Women’s overall representation in the workforce has increased marginally in the last four decades. Since 1987, they went from occupying 43 per cent of total jobs to 48 per cent in 2023. While there’s still a gender-pay gap, it’s narrowed, the report found. For managers, women earned 88 cents for every dollar their male colleagues earned in 2023, up from 80 cents in 1997. “Women in Canada face not one glass ceiling but several, and not one broken rung in the promotion ladder but many—all of which hinder their ascent to full equality,” Marwa Abdou, the report’s lead author, said in a press release.
