Brookfield Asset Management CEO Connor Teskey said Friday that getting community support will be critical, as growing opposition to data centres threatens new projects. (Bloomberg)
Talking point: Speaking to Bloomberg TV, Teskey said the firm would focus its investments on areas where data-centre development is welcomed. “The important thing for us is, the need for energy and the need for infrastructure is not political,” he said. His comments follow U.S. elections in which candidates campaigning for tighter data-centre regulations made gains, while over a dozen local measures to ban large facilities passed or were on track to do so. Brookfield Asset Management raised US$25 billion in the third quarter, bringing its year-to-date fundraising to US$123 billion. Infrastructure accounted for US$7 billion of quarterly inflows, as investors continued to favour assets such as energy and digital infrastructure. The firm reported US$763 million in distributable earnings, up from US$661 million a year earlier.
