Talking point: The company started a campaign at the warehouse earlier this week, trying to get 40 per cent of workers to sign membership cards and trigger a vote. The reinvigorated effort comes after employees at Amazon’s largest New York facility voted to unionize, and could form the company’s first U.S. union. Teamsters Canada previously tried to unionize the Nisku warehouse last September, but failed to win a majority. Meanwhile, as my colleague Catherine reported, delivery drivers for Amazon in Ontario have also been trying to unionize. The United Food and Commercial Workers has sued the company, which faces a long list of anti–union allegations, alleging it blocked the drivers’ unionization efforts.
