The Waterloo, Ont.-based company claimed in new court documents filed in the U.S. that former executive Neelam Sandhu was laid off as part of a major restructuring and not because she complained about alleged “toxic” workplace culture and sexual harassment by the company’s CEO, as she has claimed. (The Canadian Press)
Talking point: A judge previously dismissed Sandhu’s allegations of a hostile work environment and wage discrimination, though her claims of gender discrimination and retaliation are still pending. Sandhu claimed there was a “boys’ club” culture at BlackBerry, and that she was one of at least four women who were fired for speaking out against it. In its latest filing, BlackBerry said she has no basis to draw similarities between her experience and that of other women, and that the court should not view them as a pattern. None of the claims have been proven in court.
