Former chief marketing officer Neelam Sandhu alleged in new court documents that she was one of at least four women who were fired after reporting that the Waterloo, Ont.-based firm had a “toxic,” “boys’ club” culture that she claimed included sexual harassment. Talking point: Sandhu initially sued BlackBerry and CEO John Giametteo in the U.S. in April 2024, claiming Giametteo sexually harassed her and then retaliated by laying her off when she reported his behaviour to the company’s HR team and executives. A judge dismissed her allegations of a hostile work environment and wage discrimination, but claims of gender discrimination and retaliation are still before the court. A company spokesperson said there’s no evidence of retaliation or discrimination by BlackBerry. “The plaintiff’s claims have no merit,” Camilla Scassellati Sforzolini said on behalf of the company, adding that Giamatteo is no longer a defendant in the case, after Sandhu’s claims against him were dismissed.
