Talking point: After saying it would exit the province amid a crackdown by securities regulators, in a Dec. 29 email sent to Ontario users, Binance said it was in fact allowed to continue operations while it worked toward registration—a statement it “now acknowledges was not correct,” according to the OSC document. The undertaking states that Binance continued to allow Ontario residents to trade even after sending an additional email on Jan. 1 clarifying restrictions are in place. Binance hasn’t given up on Canada entirely, registering three corporate entities in Alberta and saying it is committed to ensuring regulatory compliance in Ontario in the undertaking. Binance and the OSC did not immediately respond to The Logic’s requests for comment.
