“It gives you a lot of time to reflect,” the Bitcoin company’s former CEO Changpeng Zhao said at Binance Blockchain Week, following his release. Known informally as “CZ,” the Chinese-born Canadian entrepreneur spoke to a crowd about his four-month sentence in a U.S. prison after being found guilty of violating the Bank Secrecy Act. (CoinDesk)
Talking point: CZ received a standing ovation at the event’s interview, CoinDesk reported. He was the first person to go to prison for violating the Bank Secrecy Act, which requires financial institutions to document certain transactions to regulators. Binance rose to be one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges, but has been banned in parts of the U.S. and U.K. CZ dismissed the idea of running another exchange, and spoke about missing loved ones after having his freedom stripped away. He’s instead started an educational platform called Giggle Academy, and is investing in AI, biotech and other blockchain projects.
