The accounting, tax and consulting firm didn’t disclose how much it will pay to buy Oakville, Ont.-based GrantMatch. The tech company, which tracks more than 10,000 government programs and booked about $10 million in revenue in the last fiscal year, will move all 35 of its team members over to BDO. (The Logic)
Talking point: The deal comes as Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government has shifted its federal funding strategy, leaving some projects in limbo while ramping up efforts to support Canadian defence contractors, government procurement and trade missions. Rachel Gervais, managing partner of BDO Canada’s tax services, said the startup’s proprietary software and AI will help clients like manufacturers and energy companies as the government targets support for those industries. GrantMatch works with clients ranging from Steam Whistle Brewing to WestJet to Clearwater Seafood. GrantMatch says it has about 1,000 clients and works with 130 municipalities directly, and another 20,000 clients through its partnership with RBC.
