Talking point: The AVF is an annual meeting that aims to connect entrepreneurs and investors across Canada and the U.S. East Coast. This year’s event included 44 speakers from different parts of the Canadian tech ecosystem. Along with South Korea’s demand, Cortes said Hike Ventures surveyed 48 Japanese companies and found that as the country grapples with an aging population, there’s an increasing demand for AI in the health-care industry. “I think that Canadians are probably afraid that it would be entering a highly competitive environment, whereas factually there’s innovation needs in Japan right now that could be filled very quickly and very well,” Cortes told The Logic.
