The four-astronaut crew is to land in the ocean near California at about 5:07 p.m. PDT (8:07 p.m. EDT), NASA said, after their historic trip around the moon earlier this week. The return journey for the three U.S. astronauts and Canadian Jeremy Hansen has had hiccups—a brief communication failure, a helium leak in a system that wasn’t essential to the mission—but no serious problems. Talking point: The white-knuckle part still to come is the capsule’s passage into the atmosphere, when friction slows its descent but heats its shield to about half the temperature of the surface of the sun. The uncrewed Artemis I capsule suffered unexpected heat-shield damage on re-entry at the end of its test flight, but a NASA investigation found that the interior of the capsule had been fine throughout.
