The company currently has 23,000 employees in the country, a spokesperson wrote in a statement to The Logic. The new jobs come with an extra US$100 for vaccinated new hires, according to the American announcement. The bonus was not mentioned in the Canadian announcement. Amazon has run onsite vaccination clinics at several hundred American and Canadian locations amid criticism about unsafe working conditions at its warehouses. The company recently announced it would hire 2,000 workers in B.C. as it opens five new sites, including a 450,000-square-foot robotics fulfillment centre in Vancouver, this year. The pandemic created a surge in e-commerce demand that has boosted Amazon’s earnings. Its most recent quarterly report showed a 44 per cent jump in sales.
