Talking point: The e-commerce giant accounted for 21 per cent of orders during the week of U.S. Thanksgiving and Black Friday, according to the data. (Route did not respond to a request for Canadian numbers.) Route CEO Michael Yamarito attributed the market share to customers turning to companies with fast delivery windows. In July, Amazon said it would double the number of its same-day delivery facilities. In the U.S., it currently has more than 50 such warehouses, according to MWPVL International, which tracks Amazon’s footprint. Quick delivery is increasingly important for other retailers as they look to compete with Amazon. Last summer, Walmart Canada expanded two-day delivery to 97 per cent of Canadian households, while fast-fashion retailer Shein and global e-commerce firm Temu have partnered with Richmond, B.C.-based UniUni for faster deliveries.
