Talking point: This would be Goldman Sachs’s second partnership with a major tech firm, following last year’s launch of a credit card with Apple. Goldman is expanding from investment banking to offering a larger array of financial services. It’s still in the early stages (consumer ventures made up less than three per cent of revenue in 2019) but has already racked up US$7 billion in consumer loans and card balances. Amazon’s small business-loan growth has been uneven in recent years, and it’s facing new pressure from other tech firms. Last month, Shopify announced its own small business-lending initiative.
