Talking point: Accelerate Fund IV is the AEC’s latest iteration of an investment vehicle that started in 2012 and has grown larger each year. The previous Accelerate Fund III raised a total of $23 million, with $15 million from AEC, $6 million from Opportunity Investment Calgary Fund and $2 million from private Alberta investors. The fund has backed 46 Alberta-based startups, including prominent ones such as fintech Helcim, payments company PayShepherd and sports fan analytics firm StellarAlgo. Accelerate Fund has been “fundamentally important” to the province’s tech space, Alberta Enterprise’s CEO Kristina Williams said in a statement.
