The Vancouver-based firm has invested nearly $7.4 million in total from its third fund in California-based smart-irrigation company Lumo, and two unnamed Canadian startups planning to launch in the coming weeks. (The Logic)
Talking point: Active Impact Investments funds early-stage cleantech companies that have started generating revenue and show significant growth potential. The firm has over $140 million in assets under management through its first two funds. It has so far secured $70 million in commitments—first announced in November—for its third, from investors including Northleaf Capital Partners, Fondaction, Co-operators, Deloitte Ventures and the University of Victoria. The firm is aiming to raise $120 million in total. The fundraising environment has been challenging for VC firms, many of which have generated paltry returns for their limited partners in the past two years.
