Talking point: Brookfield’s credit business is now the firm’s largest driver of growth. Nearly half of its credit assets came through Oaktree Capital, which it acquired in 2019, with the rest coming from insurance clients. The private credit market has boomed in recent years, driven by higher interest rates, and is poised to grow, according to the firm. Last year, Brookfield merged its credit business from real estate and infrastructure funds into one division, expanding with partnerships like its 51 per cent stake in private credit lender Castlelake. Along with the strong credit business, Brookfield expects more investment activity generally in 2025. Its president Connor Teskey said the firm will be hunting for deals in the wind and solar sectors following U.S. President Donald Trump’s cuts to green-energy initiatives.
