Harry Briggs, a veteran venture capitalist from BGF Ventures and Balderton Capital, will lead the new office. He will be joined by Tara Reeves, a former LocalGlobe partner, and Henry Gladwyn, who has managed seed investments for founders of Google’s DeepMind Al lab. (Globe and Mail)
Talking point: This is OMERS’ third international office, announced just two months after it revealed its Silicon Valley location, its first outside Canada. Damien Steel, OMERS Ventures managing partner, said the move reflects OMERS’ global expansion strategy for its other asset classes, such as private equity and real estate. For this fund, OMERS—which has $97 billion in assets under management—is fully backing the Europe fund, unlike its OMERS Ventures funds which have included outside investors like Sun Life Financial. The Europe team is tasked with bringing in good returns before OMERS Ventures looks to outside partners to raise funds.
