The Toronto-based crypto firm, which owns trading platforms Bitbuy and Coinsquare, has agreed to buy FX Institutions, a company registered as a crypto exchange in the country. Through the deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, WonderFi plans to launch over-the-counter trading services in Australia in the second quarter. (The Logic)
Talking point: WonderFi has been pursuing global expansion elsewhere in recent months. In October, it filed a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, eyeing a listing on the Nasdaq Capital Market. The plans coincide with renewed interest in crypto after a snap freeze in the market. Earlier this month, WonderFi boasted that Bitbuy and Coinsquare reached combined assets under custody of more than $1.5 billion, thanks to “new user growth, increased user activity and price appreciation in the digital asset sector.” The company said in a statement Tuesday that Australia is an attractive market, given the country’s high crypto adoption rate.
