The digital asset broke the US$60,000 mark Wednesday morning and continued to rise to almost US$64,000 by early afternoon, just US$5,000 shy of its all-time high on Nov. 10, 2021. (The Logic)
Talking point: The crypto winter continues to warm and Bitcoin has led the market rally. Optimism in the digital asset has been fuelled by its upcoming halving event, part of the network’s code in which the rewards for successfully mining a new Bitcoin block are cut in half every four years, expected in April. Halving events have historically preceded bull runs for Bitcoin. January’s launch of Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. has been a success, with US$6.27 billion in cumulative inflows, according to data from Dune Analytics. Something else that’s seeing levels not reached since 2021 is the Crypto Fear and Greed Index, a measure of market sentiment that’s currently in “extreme greed.”
