Judith Athaide and Jill Earthy have left Sustainable Development Technology Canada’s board, following the departures of chair Annette Verschuren, board member Jessica McDonald and CEO Leah Lawrence. SDTC spokesperson Diana Mendes said Athaide and Earthy’s terms expired in June 2022, but they had extended their membership for “board continuity.” (The Logic, The Globe and Mail)

Talking point: The departures follow whistleblowers’ claims that the funding agency gave preferential treatment to companies with ties to its board members. Innovation, Science and Economic Development—the federal department overseeing SDTC—suspended the agency from issuing new money in October, after a third-party investigation flagged concerns with its conflict-of-interest and human resources practices. SDTC, Lawrence and Verschuren have disputed the findings. The government gave SDTC until Dec. 31 to address the concerns. ISED did not immediately respond to The Logic’s questions regarding whether the agency has done so.
