Retailers had been anxiously awaiting the period between Black Friday and Boxing Day, uncertain over how shoppers would navigate the typical sales frenzy period amid a volatile economy. Data from Shopify and Mastercard showed consumers spent more on Black Friday than the previous year, while Adobe Analytics found overall holiday spending increased. However, if people overspent or relied heavily on buy-now, pay-later services, it’s possible a pullback on spending will happen early this year.
