The Toronto-based asset management firm will invest up to US$845 million from the Brookfield Global Transition Fund II into a joint initiative with Axis Energy Ventures. The venture gives Brookfield access to Axis’ pipeline of wind and solar power projects in India. (The Logic)
Talking point: This is Brookfield’s second venture with North Carolina-based Axis Energy. Brookfield is expecting strong growth in the Indian market, with the Indian government targeting 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. Together, Brookfield and Axis Energy have built 1.8 GW of solar and wind assets through their previous venture. Brookfield said it alone has more than 16 GW of such assets in operation or development in the country. It has also entered a partnership with India’s Reliance Industries to develop renewable energy and decarbonization equipment in Australia.
