Talking point: The South Texas Direct Air Capture Hub, as one of the projects is called, will use Squamish, B.C.-based Carbon Engineering’s technology. Occidental Petroleum will operate the facility, and direct air capture company 1PointFive is designing the project alongside the Canadian firm. The second project in Louisiana, operated by Batelle, will use technology from Swiss-based Climeworks and San Francisco’s Heirloom. The funding announcement is a major spending commitment from the Biden administration, which has already promised massive subsidies to clean-energy providers in an effort to reach net-zero emissions.
