Talking point: The sudden moratorium comes after the Alberta Utilities Commission heard from municipalities and businesses over the rapid expansion of renewable power assets amid worries over the stability of the province’s grid, the government said. In a statement reacting to the news, the Pembina Institute said the policy threatened to halt 91 clean-energy projects and $25 billion in proposed investments. While other provinces have called for greater development of the renewables sector, Pembina’s Binnu Jeyakumar said, “Alberta appears to be heading in the opposite direction.”
