San Francisco-based startup PitPro Automation says the system is the first it’s put in the field. It can swap out a full set of four tires in under 15 minutes. PitPro is planning to install more units at other locations in the fall. (The Logic)

Talking point: Changing tires is heavy, intense and, well, tiring work. PitPro’s machines can be installed in existing service bays, and work on all four wheels simultaneously. The system can handle everything from passenger cars up to larger pickups, smaller cargo vans and other medium-duty vehicles. Kal Tire sees demand for tire services spike in Canadian winters, so it hopes the machines will help get customers in and out quicker. PitPro raised US$4.3 million in an April 2024 round, backed by investors including Bloomberg Beta, according to PitchBook data. The startup has ambitions beyond changing tires, with plans to roll out more technology to automate vehicle servicing.
