Hiring for Canada’s data-centre sector surged from the beginning of 2025 through August of this year, bucking a much weaker hiring environment across the broader technology sector, according to new data from Indeed. (The Logic)

Talking point: The spike in data-centre-linked postings on the job site contrasts with an eight per cent increase for other tech jobs and a seven per cent increase across all Canadian postings. Payroll employment in computing infrastructure, data processing and web hosting rose 22.8 per cent year over year as of June, adding roughly 8,000 workers, according to Statistics Canada. But Indeed said much of the hiring so far appears connected to existing cloud and storage infrastructure rather than new AI facilities. Management jobs remain prominent, while “cloud consultant” is among the most common job titles and only about one in 10 postings this year were for installation and maintenance roles. Alberta accounts for 92 per cent of planned capacity among announced and pipelined Canadian data-centre projects, though employment in the sector there grew just 1.4 per cent over the past year, per Indeed’s report.
