Talking point: Monaco, who has been with Enbridge for 27 years, has been a prominent voice in an industry that has been forced to take on a more public role as companies look to secure funding for carbon-capture projects and respond to intensifying calls to decarbonize. Under Monaco, Enbridge has “accelerated” its push into renewables, while also expanding the company’s U.S. pipeline network and establishing LNG capacity on Canada’s West Coast, incoming CEO Ebel said in a press release. Ebel is a former head of Spectra Energy, which Enbridge acquired in 2017 as part of a $37-billion megamerger. The company now operates a sprawling portfolio of pipelines, wind farms and other assets that generated about $2.6 billion in EBITDA in the second quarter of this year.
