The Calgary-based company and its partner Kineticor said they had reserved two turbines for their Greenlight Electricity Centre (GLEC), a planned 1,800-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant, and conditionally sold $190 million of land in connection with the project. The Logic first reported on Friday that Pembina is in discussions with Meta to build a major data centre in Alberta. (The Logic)
Talking point: Pembina did not directly name Meta in its press release, but Monday’s announcement shows how the two companies are pushing forward a major power plant that sources told The Logic would eventually supply electricity to the AI data hub. Also on Monday, Pembina said that the joint venture had secured 907 megawatts of power from the province’s grid operator under the GLEC project, which will give its unnamed customer access to the public grid as early as 2027. Pembina and Kineticor expect to reach a final investment decision on GLEC in the first half of 2026.
