Talking point: The recommendations come as the prominence of carbon removal and other clean technologies has faded. A combination of the Trump administration’s rollback of green energy subsidies, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and a new emphasis on energy security has led to a decline in cleantech investment and government support. The business council is seeking to appeal to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s longtime support of such developments and maintain Canada’s position as a carbon-removal hub. According to Carbon Removal Canada, Canada currently has 101,000 tonnes of carbon-removal capacity, with another 11.9 million tonnes of capacity planned for development.
