Talking point: SoftBank’s investment in Saskatoon-based 7shifts, which operates a team-management platform for restaurants, comes as businesses around the world grapple with staffing shortages. In a release, 7shifts said its platform will be particularly helpful for restaurants that are adapting to the labour challenges, allowing employees to receive schedules, trade shifts and manage tasks. “Over the past two years, restaurants have dealt with countless challenges, and now more than ever need technology to streamline operations, empower workers and improve team retention,” CEO Jordan Boesch said in a statement. SoftBank Vision Fund 2’s investment comes just a day after Montreal-based biotech company Ventus Therapeutics announced the global tech investor co-led its Series C.
