Scarborough led women-focused investment initiatives during her tenure at the venture capital arm of the Business Development Bank of Canada. She was most recently managing partner at the Crown corporation’s $500-million Thrive Venture Fund. (The Logic)
Talking point: Scarborough announced her departure on LinkedIn on Monday, without providing a reason for the move. While at BDC, she led deals involving several high-profile women-led companies, including autonomous driving startup Waabi and textile manufacturer SRTX. The Women in Tech fund, which preceded Thrive, has had successful exits, including payments company Beanworks, and edtech firm Kira Talent. Scarborough’s departure is the latest in a series of exits and layoffs at BDC Capital. Jérôme Nycz, who led the division, abruptly announced his retirement a year ago. Three months later, BDC Capital’s deep-tech lead Thomas Park left the organization. Neither Scarborough nor BDC responded to The Logic’s request for comment.
