Talking point: Park’s departure comes three months after Jérôme Nycz, the head of BDC Capital, abruptly left after 22 years at the Crown corporation. The bank named Geneviève Bouthillier as his replacement last week. BDC Capital is the most active venture capital investor in Canada, making direct investments in startups and scale-ups, as well as backing other venture capital funds. Park had helped design BDC’s venture capital strategy, first in 2010 as a McKinsey & Company consultant and then at BDC in 2018. Turnover on BDC’s venture team comes at a challenging time in the VC market. BDC posted steep writedowns in its VC portfolio in the last fiscal year, i​ts latest annual report showed.
