Talking point: Amazon Air’s flights in Canada now account for three per cent of the cargo airline’s total global daily activity. It flies about 10 or 11 intra-Canada routes daily between airports in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Hamilton, Ont. The study, first reported by the Financial Times, predicts that Amazon Air will grow operations by 12 to 14 per cent, with more than 180 flights daily, by January 2022, fuelled by what’s expected to be “a frenetic Christmas shopping season.” Meanwhile, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told Reuters the company plans to hire 55,000 corporate and technology workers globally in the next several months. The hiring push, which would grow the company’s corporate and tech headcount by 20 per cent, comes ahead of its annual career day, scheduled for Sept. 15.
