Both banks sent memos to staff Friday morning saying each will require their Canadian and U.S. staff to get their shots against COVID-19 by the end of October. BMO’s policy, which singles out those eligible for vaccines in North America, also applies to contractors. (The Logic)
Talking point: The moves follow RBC and TD Bank in imposing a vaccination requirement, both of which are applying similar fall deadlines. Scotiabank, meanwhile, sent out a memo telling staff “we are moving in the direction of making vaccinations mandatory for all Canadian-based employees, and contractors, later in the fall.” In an earlier statement to The Logic Thursday, a CIBC spokesperson had said that the bank was only “strongly encouraging our team to get vaccinated and … providing paid time off to do so.” Ever more employers have been mandating eligible employees get their shots; Ontario transit agency Metrolinx also gave such an order Friday.
