The Victoria-based company said it signed an agreement “to acquire substantially all of the assets” of Archetype Themes, a designer and developer of premium website templates for Shopify merchants. (The Logic)
Talking point: WeCommerce, which builds, grows and acquires businesses that serve the Shopify partner ecosystem, will pay US$20 million with a further US$12 million if future growth targets are met. The move means WeCommerce, controlled by Andrew Wilkinson’s Tiny Capital, will own five of the seven most popular paid themes in the Shopify Theme Store. Wilkinson serves as WeCommerce’s chairman, and Tiny is also an investor in The Logic. In March, WeCommerce announced it would pay US$75 million cash and US$10 million in stock for Singapore-based Stamped, which provides tools for reviews and loyalty programs that integrate with Shopify and other e-commerce platforms. WeCommerce shares closed nearly seven per cent higher to $9.62 on Friday.
