Talking point: The company is the second Indian IT firm to expand significantly in the city, after the much larger Infosys announced plans for 500 new hires in March. Mphasis CEO Nitin Rakesh cited the availability of tech workers as motivation for the move. While Alberta doesn’t yet have quite the same concentration of quantum companies as British Columbia and Ontario do, UCalgary was part of an academia-industry consortium that successfully petitioned the federal government for a national strategy and funding for the disruptive technology field.
