The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of digital connectivity for remote work and learning, building and sustaining communities, and fostering economic prosperity. Yet high-speed internet is unavailable in more than half of all rural communities in Canada. How can 5G adoption help, and what spectrum policy is needed to bridge the urban-rural divide?
Kalvin Bahia, principal economist at GSMA; Helaina Gaspard, director, governance and institutions at the Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy at uOttawa; and Denise Williams, CEO of the First Nations Technology Council joined us for a conversation on spectrum policy and the economic and social impact of connectivity across Canada, hosted by David Reevely, reporter for The Logic.
This event was sponsored by TELUS, with opening remarks from Jacob Glick, vice-president of public policy.
