Rogers has bought four-year-old Pacific Content, which makes branded podcasts for firms including Facebook, Dell and Mozilla. Rogers did not disclose an acquisition price. In March, Rogers made a deal to sell Maclean’s, Chatelaine, Today’s Parent, Hello!, Flare and Canadian Business, to St. Joseph Communications, which publishes Toronto Life, for an undisclosed amount. Talking point: This new focus on podcasts may be a safer financial bet than the perennially money-losing magazine industry. In July 2018, Rogers launched a podcast network of its own, which now features shows sponsored by Air Transat and redtag.ca. Rogers has dabbled in more business-focused editorial products before, only to later retreat. In November and December 2016, Rogers sold the trade publications Advisor’s Edge, Marketing, Conseiller, Benefits Canada and Canadian Grocer.
