Talking point: Supermaven was founded by Jacob Jackson, who previously launched an AI coding assistant called Tabnine while studying at the University of Waterloo. Jackson had raised nearly US$60 million in venture capital for Tabnine, and sold the firm to Codata in 2019—while preparing for his final exams. Jackson also worked as an OpenAI research scientist before launching Supermaven in February. A startup of just five engineers, the company says its editor extensions are currently used by more than 40,000 developers.
