Talking point: The antitrust investigation began in 2022, shortly before Ticketmaster’s Taylor Swift ticket presale crashed. Under Canadian CEO Michael Rapino—the company’s executive ranks have always been well-stocked with Canadians, including Arthur Fogel, president of its global touring business—Live Nation has acquired a range of global events and ticketing businesses over the years. In 2019, the Justice Department found that Live Nation aimed to force venues to use its ticketing subsidiary Ticketmaster, which merged with the California-based company in 2010.
