Talking point: This is the first acquisition for PlayVS. The California-based company has raised more than US$100 million over several rounds, according to PitchBook. The most recent was completed in November 2020, with US$10.5 million raised from undisclosed investors. Previous investors include Leaf Ventures, which led a US$50-million Series C round that included former Disney CEO Michael Ovitz and former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo. Both companies help organize e-sports leagues in schools. PlayVS has an exclusive partnership with the National Federation of State High School Associations and also works at the college level. GameSeta has a similar partnership with BC School Sports, and the deal helpsPlayVS expand into Canada.
