A letter signed by 25 state attorney general offices, as well as other U.S. state and city authorities, asks for Shopify’s co-operation to prevent merchants from selling vapes that don’t have required government licenses or otherwise violate U.S. laws. (Reuters)
Talking point: Shopify did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment. The U.S. has been increasingly clamping down on illegal vape sales. Currently, only 39 e-cigarette products can be legally sold in the U.S. Shopify had already removed some sellers of unauthorized vapes in April that had been identified by California, one of the signatories to the letter, but the attorneys general are asking for Shopify’s broader, ongoing effort.
