The federal and Ontario governments will pay $384 million more than previously planned to have the 55 trains be made at an Alstom factory in Thunder Bay, Ont., with 55 per cent Canadian content, they announced Thursday. Talking point: Alstom is a French company that bought Bombardier’s rail business in 2021, including the Thunder Bay factory—where, the Ontario government said, the Toronto contract will directly create 240 jobs. Other Alstom facilities in Ontario will also work on the project. Alstom counts as Canadian because it carries on business regularly in Canada and the train work will be done in Canada.
