Musk can buy shares at a heavily discounted price because Tesla passed US$20 billion in revenue and a market capitalization of over US$100 billion. It’s the first milestone in a 12-point plan that would net Musk US$55 billion if Tesla hits all its financial goals. (The Verge, Business Insider)
Talking point: Musk is not paid a salary at Tesla, but is given stock options when the company does well. The firm’s stock price has more than quadrupled over the past 12 months. This milestone comes right before Tesla’s shareholder meeting, one of the few still being held in person. There are seven proposals being voted on at the meeting, including one to end forced arbitration and another calling for Tesla to create a report on human rights violations at firms from which it buys raw materials. Tesla recommended shareholders vote against both proposals.
