The Ottawa-based technology giant’s president Harley Finkelstein said the company has no additional plans for layoffs. He told The Canadian Press the company is at the right size after previous cuts and that it likely won’t grow its headcount much. “There’s no cuts coming for us,” he said. “We’re in a really good place.” (The Canadian Press)
Talking point: Finkelstein’s statement comes after other tech companies laid off more workers globally in January than any other month in three years. Shopify was among the first global tech giants to lay off workers last year, when it axed about 1,000 jobs in July citing that it had made an error forecasting that the pandemic-fuelled e-commerce surge would be sustained. On the heels of its latest quarterly results, Finkelstein also told The Canadian Press there will always be demand for software and product staff as they are in short supply. “I think we can keep it pretty flat other than maybe a couple of key hires,” he said.
