Talking point: Federal and provincial governments see SMRs as a way to supplement other renewable energy sources, and also meet power needs in Northern and remote locations, and at worksites such as mines and oil-sands facilities. New Brunswick’s utility has backed two companies developing the technology: Moltex and Advanced Reactor Concepts, to which the provincial government awarded $20 million in February.
